Domaine Fevre is producing some of the finest wines in Chablis today and I was thrilled to pick up their 2003 Montee de Tonnerre on closeout for $24.99 at Zachys. This bottle, however, confirmed my dislike for the 2003 vintage. The wine was very good, but it did not taste like a Chablis. I look for minerality and acidity when drinking a Chablis, but the Fevre was void of both. Rich and round on the palate, the wine showed tropical fruit flavors that are typical of the vintage. The wine did avoid the overripe flavors and flabby texture that haunt many 2003 white Burgundies, but it bore little resemblance to a classic Chablis.
